On May 13, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraud. The victim had been contacted by the bank that a subject attempting to cash a check for a large amount on the account.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought on Danny Reece Barnett for felony exploit a person in a disabled/elderly capacity on November 3, 2022.
On June 26, 2023, Barnett was located in Mitchell County and transported to the Mitchell County Detention Center where he was served the outstanding warrant and issued a $10,000 secured bond. A court date was set for July 24, 2023, in Randolph County District Court. He was transferred to the custody of the Randolph County Detention Center on June 29, 2023.
