On July 15, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a property check on NC Hwy 62, Trinity, when the deputy observed a male laying underneath a truck in the parking lot and conducted a welfare check on the individual, identified as Daren Scott Guffey of Thomasville, NC. Randolph Communications advised that Guffey’s license were suspended and that he was wanted for a Probation Violation, felony habitual larceny, and failure to appear on a felony. He was placed under arrest and during a search, deputies located heroin. He was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of heroin, and he was served with his additional warrants. He was issued a $5,050 secured bond and a first appearance was set for July 18, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
